This past weekend, the participants got to spend time with family, see old friends from Tel Yehudah, and make new friends from other buses. Family Weekend 2011 was a huge hit! On Thursday, everyone was bused to various points around Israel, including Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Netanya. It was a great way for friends on different buses to catch up with each other, and those who stayed with the group in Beit Ar-El got to meet each other and expand their pool of friends in Young Judaea.

Nitzachon Heats Up in the Desert

Last Monday night, Nitzachon had the classic camp-out experience at the a Bedouin tent in the Negev Desert.  Not only did they hear stories about the Bedouin tribes of Israel, they also got to sample some of their delicious food and special tea.  At 3 AM, the group woke up in time to climb Masada before sunrise, truly a spectacular sight. Nitzachon: First Few Days

On Friday the participants had a short but enjoyable hike, followed by a trip to Sde Boker and a visit to Ben Gurion’s tomb. They learned about Ben Gurion and how he shaped the country. They prepared for their first Shabbat in Israel, which was at Kibbutz Sde Boker. On Saturday the participants got to try jachnun for the first time, which is a delicious fried dough very popular in Israel. They did t’fila, Kiddush, and got an introduction into Young Judaea, including the history and ideology of the movement, and they learned about Shabbat “YJ” style. Nitzachon – 07.27

On Friday, happy to be together as a group once again, Nitzachon travelled to a beach on The Kinneret to enjoy some time in the water. Several of the chanichim had a blast playing frisbee as well! They were given some free time in the nearby city of Tiberias to walk around before heading to Kibbutz Amiad, where they enjoyed Shabbat.

Nitzachon Update 0715

We last left off as Nitzachon was heading to tour Haifa on Monday evening. Tuesday, the group learned a bit about minorities in Israel and co-existence. The group visited a Druze community.  Here they shared a delicious meal with community members, and also learned about this unique and interesting culture. The chanichim had tons of great questions!
Wednesday, the group continued their exploration of the north of Israel with a visit to Mount Bental. Here one can admire incredible views of the Golan Heights and Hula Valley. From this viewpoint, one can clearly see both Syria and Lebanon! The group… Read more

Nitzachon Update 0713

When we last left off with Nitzachon, the group was getting ready to explore the southernmost tip of Israel- Eilat and the Arava desert! While in this region, Nitzachon had a chance to explore the beautiful coral reefs of the Red Sea during a snorkeling adventure.  There was also an opportunity to enjoy the very popular Eilat Tayelet (boardwalk) filled with shops and restaurants.

Nitzachon Update July 7th

On Monday, Nitzachon participated in a special volunteer project in the city of Arad. The chanichim volunteered at an immigrant absorption center in the city, working with Ethiopian immigrants. Everyone had a ball playing soccer, making balloons, and face painting!
Later in the day the group travelled to Kfar Hanokdim to experience Bedouin hospitality. Here the group enjoyed Bedouin tea and coffee, a delicious meal and even camel rides! Everyone was very interested in learning more about the Bedouin community, and were eager to participate in a song and dance session.  It was not a late night for the group… Read more

Nitzachon 5th July Update

Nitzachon had a relaxing and rejuvenating first Shabbat. The group had a great kabbalat Shabbat and rikkud session filled with singing and dancing! Shabbat was also a great chance to continue to get to know each other and build a cohesive unit.
The group started off the new week Sunday morning with an exciting rappelling adventure at the Machtesh Ramon crater! Nitzachon arrive in Israel!

After a long, fun flight, our chanichim (participants) arrived safely in Israel and were greeted at Ben-Gurion Airport by the Israel staff members and madrichim (counselors). After making their way through customs and picking up their luggage, the chanichim boarded their buses for the first time.
Nitzachon then headed off to Jerusalem where they had a special opening ceremony and group ice breakers to get to know each other and their staff.
