Our Approach to Safety and Security
Young Judaea recognizes that security is a chief concern for the parents of potential participants in Israel summer programs. As the oldest and largest provider of Israel programs in North America, Young Judaea shares this concern and monitors world developments closely. The information provided below describes our approach to security.
What is Young Judaea’s approach to safety?
For over 50 years, Young Judaea has operated Israel programs for Jewish youth from North America and Great Britain. We strive to provide an enriching and exciting Israel experience while always being cognizant of the safety and well-being of our participants.
We take reasonable precautions regarding security matters, including planning our itineraries in daily coordination with our security advisers that, although not responsible for the matter of security, receive regular reports from the government security agencies and provides us with alerts and precautionary directives. The participants will be advised of security rules and regulations at a security orientation upon arrival, which include that, both individually and as a group, participants are prohibited from visiting the West Bank and from traveling on public buses.
Our programs are designed to adapt to changing security concerns as the situation requires and therefore itineraries are subject to change in Young Judaea’s sole discretion.
Does Young Judaea currently have any programs in Israel?Yes. Some 300 North American, British, and Israeli teens are participating in Year Course, our nine-month study and volunteer program for teenagers between high school and college. We will also be hosting more than 800 college-aged participants on various short-term programs throughout 2013.
How will I remain updated during the summer?
During the operation of the program, you may contact our staff in New York and Jerusalem 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We are also pleased to provide regular updates to parents during the summer on our website blog and on our facebook page: YJ summer programs. We appreciate that a trip to Israel is a special experience not only for the participants, but also for their parents. We are committed to sharing this experience with parents to a degree that has been very much appreciated by our families.
